Our Facilities
We welcome you to visit EPI’s Ecology and Conservation Education Centers – in Missoula, Montana, and La Paz, Mexico. These Centers serve as a place for the community to come together for conservation activities and events, and as a sustainability demonstration site. As part of our organizational strategic plan, we aim to establish a Center at each of our four field sites to increase educational and networking opportunities for students, alumni, and the community.
The Swift building
Missoula, Montana
Headquartered in the historic Swift building, EPI shares this riverfront space with similar mission-based organizations to leverage resources, cut costs, and make conservation efforts more effective and efficient. We host numerous events here to raise awareness and build collaboration. Check out our events frequently to learn about activities at the Swift.
EPI purchased the Swift building in 2009, and our near-term vision is for tenant organizations with synergistic missions to benefit from shared resources. For example, a shared internet subscription allows all tenants to reduce their internet costs by half. Our long-term vision is to create a collaborative center, in which regional groups working toward environmental sustainability can dialog and share solutions to common challenges.
La Paz Campus
Southern Baja California, Mexico
Established in 2006, EPI’s Mexico campus serves as a community conservation center, with a dormitory for visiting student groups, resource room for student projects, meeting space, a palapa, native garden and a 65-foot Fin whale skeleton – the only specimen on display in Mexico! In addition, the campus frequently hosts educational workshops, lectures and speaking presentations, trainings, and community awareness events. Visit our blog for current events.
Recent highlights at EPI’s La Paz campus include: a conference on climate change given by a representative of Al Gore’s The Climate Project, training for local high school and university students to teach elementary kids in environmental education, and the international debut of the environmental film, HOME. Read our Campus brochure to learn more about our incredible facility.
