Pedro Linares
Pedro was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and grew up surrounded by the diversity and the richness of the nature in the Andes Mountains. This is why he has been engaged with outdoor activities since he was 17, such as biking, trekking, kayaking and in competitions of adventure racing. He has also been an instructor in various environmental education institutions all around his country since he was 20, and has traveled to the most remote places, from high snowy peaks to the forgotten jungles of the Amazon.
In love with nature, he studied Ecology in Bogotá and worked with various foundations, especially with urban farmers in big cities. Before graduating from the university, he was already engaged with US organizations working in ecological restoration. After one year and a half of living in Seattle and working with EarthCorps as a crew leader, he got involved with EPI for the first time in the Galapagos Program as an instructor. His experience in the islands transformed his vision of ecological education programs, and his curiosity and inquiry took him to structure a new proposal for EPI. He extended his residence in the islands and developed a local needs assessment, in order to provide new tools for EPI programs to adjust better to local students needs and knowledge. The successful outcome of this outsourcing took him to travel to the Mexico and Costa Rica programs in 2009, to make the same local needs assessment for these EPI programs as well.
After two years of being involved in EPI, he is looking forward to get to Galápagos again and start working in this amazing ecological treasure once more.
