Costa Rica Sea Turtle Ecology Program- Learning through Doing In Costa Rica, our students learn about leatherback sea turtles and the ecology of Costa Rica by being actively participating in leatherback research. Through these participatory field science programs, our students and teachers put inquiry-based learning in practice.
Pacuare Nature Reserve Biologist on Ecology Project International Andy Farmer, research biologist at Pacuare Nature Reserve, speaks about working with Ecology Project International's sea turtle ecology program in Costa Rica and the important conservation work with leatherback sea turtles that EPI students assist with.
Meet a few of EPI’s Participating Teachers Four past participating teachers, Rob Jensen, Kate Dirksen, Bill Anderson and Carla Hinman, share why travelling with Ecology Project International has enriched the lives of their students and their own through safe and academically-authentic student group travel.
Field Science Education and Cultural Exchange—The EPI Way EPI engages students in field science through hands-on collection of meaningful data alongside research biologists in amazing locations around the world. In addition to inquiry-based science, students have the opportunity to engage the local community at each of our field sites by interacting with local students their age.
Inspiring Students from Costa Rica to Galapagos Islands Students reflect on their experiences with EPI in Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands. Gaining hands-on experience learning sea turtle ecology and island ecology, student groups learn to appreciate science and the natural world.
Leatherback sea turtle emerging from nest Though it may be small now, this leatherback sea turtle may go on to join the ranks of the largest marine reptiles on earth. The hatchling's mother, like those measured and monitored by our students, likely hatched on the same beach decades ago, has swum around the world and weighs as much as a small car.
Pacuare Nature Reserve Action and Adventure Students spend time studying leatherback sea turtles on a remote beach in Costa Rica at Pacuare Nature Reserve. Located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Pacuare Nature Resrve is among the most important nesting beaches in the world for leatherback sea turtles.
Costa Rica Sneak Peek In Costa Rica, EPI students partake in leatherback sea turtle field research alongside biologists at the Pacuare Nature Reserve.
