Student Stats

Since EPI's first two-week field program in 2000, a total of 1,700 students, teachers, and staff of our Sea Turtle Ecology Program in Costa Rica have:

• Collected data on 892 endangered Leatherback sea turtles, counted more than 65,000 eggs, and helped to protect over 630 Leatherback nests
• Volunteered 28,000 hours on conservation projects
• Walked 33,700 km (21,000 miles) on sea turtle "patrol"
• Collected 1,700 pounds of trash from nesting beaches
• Planted 2,100 trees

Sea Turtle Database

While EPI students are at the Pacuare Nature Reserve, they collect monitoring data on each sea turtle. All of this information is compiled into a database that lets you learn about individual nesting turtles.  Try it out by clicking here!
