Without protection, more than 90% of Leatherback eggs are illegally harvested from the Pacuare Reserve in Costa Rica, part of the 4th most important nesting beach in the world for Leatherback sea turtles. Leatherbacks will not survive without our help.
Every night of nesting season, EPI participants patrol the beach in partnership with Pacuare’s researchers. After nine years of these patrols, less than 10% of the eggs are illegally harvested from the beach. We cannot save Leatherbacks alone. Sponsoring a turtle ensures these nightly patrols continue and local residents are involved in the conservation solution.
