“The most important thing EPI offers to Costa Rican students is the value of marine conservation and the importance of marine turtles. EPI is increasing the level of conservation knowledge in the youth of Costa Rica, with interest, passion, and support.”EPI Student Becomes a High School Biology Teacher
Alejandro Delgado participated in EPI’s Sea Turtle Ecology Program (STEP) in 2001 as a young high school student. He was a bright, motivated student and was really excited to work with sea turtles for the first time. After completion of the course, Alejandro was inspired to study science and share what he learned about the sea turtles with others. Five years later, he became a high school science teacher. Now he teaches other young Costa Rican students about the amazing world of science and specifically, the incredible biodiversity of Costa Rica.
Each year, Alejandro brings his students to EPI courses. In 2009, for the very first time, Alejandro and a group of his Costa Rican students traveled to Montana to take part in EPI’s Yellowstone Ecology Program, alongside local Montanan youth.
