Alexis Jackson

“My experience with EPI is what got me excited about conservation biology.”

Costa Rica Alumna Becomes a Conservation Scientist

Eight years after participating in EPI’s Costa Rica program as a high school sophomore, Alexis Jackson is now conducting her own conservation research. As a graduate student at University of California Santa Cruz, Alexis received EPI’s first Alumni Conservation Leader Award for her research on grouper populations and fisheries management in the Gulf of California. After receiving numerous awards during her undergraduate studies at Yale and establishing herself as a top student in her classes, Alexis is pursuing a PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Her project seeks to remedy overharvesting of fish, and improve management and conservation efforts in the Gulf by working with local fisherman to inform them of best fishing practices.
