Ana Lucía Acuña Sánchez

“I would like to know more, be more conscious, and share information about our environment.”

Student Turns Knowledge into Action

Ana is a quiet girl, and not too long ago she was having trouble in school, struggling to keep her grades up.

Ana participated in the 2010 Mexico Islands Ecology Program, helping scientists collect data on marine invertebrates. After the course, Ana become active in her community, joining campaigns to protect a local beach from development and from building a copper mine in a pristine habitat, participating in public meetings and distributing information. She continues to volunteer for numerous conservation organizations in Mexico.

And, Ana’s grades have improved and she is starting to plan what she wants to study in college.
