The Adventure: Day by Day

We've thought through every detail of your Belize Marine adventure - from planning to paperwork to travel - so you don't have to. Check below for a sample itinerary, details on lodging and food, FAQ's, and all the materials you'll need for your course.

Day 1
Begin your course at the Toledo Institute for Development and Environment TIDE dock in Punta Gorda! Learn more about your peers and EPI Belize Instructors, and set the tone for your Marine course. Board the TIDE research vessel and travel to Payne’s Creek National Park, get oriented with sustainable and unplugged living! 

Take a dip off the beach at the Snake Cayes with a Snorkel Check in! Take a step out of your comfort zone and learn to snorkel and swim. Create your species list and see seagrass communities with juvenile and marine creatures in their symbiotic niche. 

Day 2
Delve into your second day learning about Manatees! Start monitoring from Payne’s Creek dock and learn about why they are umbrella species! You can even get a chance to see dolphins in the wild. You will also explore the mangrove ecosystems; learn how important they are to Belize! 

Day 3
Collect data on the yellow-headed parrot, subspecies unique to Belize. Learn why they are illegal to hunt. Acquire knowledge on fire management and know why it is vital in a pine savanna. 

Day 4
Learn more about the Port of Honduras Marine Reserve and flora and fauna in Punta Gorda. Take a snorkel and learn about our diverse reef system and the importance of reef-building corals! Participate in our beach cleanup at a small coastal community. Help collect data on discarded materials affecting our marine and terrestrial life and propose sustainable solutions and ideas for Climate Change mitigation measures of how you as an individual, a community, a citizen, can change the tide on pollution.

Day 5 
Become a Bio scholar! Travel back from Port of Honduras Marine Reserve with knowledge, skills and the capacity to make the world a better place. Follow up with EPI and learn how you can continue to participate in Outreach and Alumni opportunities.
