Emily An

Hawaii Program Instructor

Emily An joined Ecology Project International in 2023 as an instructor for the Hawaii Island Ecology Program. With a passion for the environment and a strong commitment to education, Emily has dedicated her career to promoting awareness and understanding of the natural world around us.

Born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, Emily has had the opportunity to work with students of all ages, teaching them about the complex and interconnected ecosystems that make up our planet, including at an Arctic field station in Greenland! Through hands-on experiences in the field, Emily helps students develop a deeper appreciation for the environment and the role we all play in preserving it.

Whether leading students on a hike through the lush rainforests of Hawaii or teaching them about the importance of coral reefs, Emily brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to each and every course she teaches. Her infectious enthusiasm and passion for the environment inspires students to become active and engaged members of their communities.

Emily is excited about being a part of EPI’s mission to connect with student groups in outdoor settings and create passion for the conservation of our natural resources through science. As the product of a successful earth science outreach program and having continued experience with similar programs to encourage students to get interested in ocean sciences, she believes that EPI has an excellent balance of applicable scientific skills and outdoor experiences to engage students in conservation.
