PD Hours: 40 hrsCost: $1500Your FieldworkSample ItineraryAccommodationsParticipate in authentic field research alongside the Toucan Ridge Ecology and Education Society (T.R.E.E.S.), including bat surveys and herpetology studies in the tropical forest. Along the coast, take part in fish species monitoring, coral reef health assessments, and beach cleanups. Explore biodiversity and human impact on the environment while learning how to bring field discoveries into the classroom.Day 1 Arrival in Belize Meet your instructor team and cohort, learn about EPI's teaching model, and prepare for the projects ahead.Days 2–4 at T.R.E.E.S. Hands-on freshwater stream ecology and bird and bat mist-netting surveys.Days 5–6 at the Belizean Caye Coral reef monitoring and fish species data collection on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, with a focus on invasive species management, reef health, and climate impacts.Day 7 Return to T.R.E.E.S. Celebrate with a traditional Garifuna or Sambai drumming session and reflect on your fellowship experience.Day 8 Departure from BZET.R.E.E.S. Dormitory-style accommodations with up to 6 fellows per room. At Pacuare Reserve, monitor nesting sea turtles alongside research staff and explore sea turtle ecology and conservation. Experience tropical rainforest ecosystems while deepening your understanding of biodiversity and conservation science, and learn how to bring experiential science into your classroom.Day 1 Arrival in Costa Rica Meet your cohort and instructor team, settle in near San José, and learn about EPI's field-based teaching model.Days 2–5 at Pacuare Reserve Explore lowland tropical ecosystems, learn sea turtle biology and conservation, and participate in nightly nesting censuses and habitat restoration.Days 6–7 Rainforest Adventure Visit a private rainforest reserve, raft a scenic river, and return to San José for a final night of celebration and reflection.Day 8 Departure from SJOHeredia Hotel: Dormitory-style accommodations with up to 8 fellows per room. PD Hours: 40 hrsCost: $800Your FieldworkSample ItineraryAccommodationsParticipate in ongoing ecological research in and around Yellowstone National Park, working alongside researchers and agency partners to monitor wildlife, restore habitat, and study ecosystem dynamics. Track ungulates like bison and bighorn sheep, observe wolves in the Lamar Valley, and learn about predator-prey relationships and wolf reintroduction. Assist with invasive plant surveys and amphibian and reptile monitoring.Day 1 Arrival in Bozeman, MT Meet your cohort and instructor team, travel to camp on the edge of Yellowstone, and learn about EPI's field-based teaching model and National Park Service projects.Days 2–4 Conservation and Monitoring Remove fencing and invasive plants, collect data for Yellowstone's bison grazing study, and develop Leave No Trace camping skills.Days 5–6 Explore Yellowstone Observe wolves in the Lamar Valley with a wolf biologist, explore geothermal features, and hike to an alpine lake.Day 7 Celebrate and Reflect Raft the Yellowstone River and spend your final night in a cabin celebrating and reflecting on your fellowship experience.Day 8 Departure from BZNCampground in Gardiner MT: Tent camping with up to 3 fellows per tent. Facilities include outhouses only. No running water, hot water, or electricity. Bozeman Cabins: Cabin accommodations with 4–6 fellows per room.
