What You'll Do in Costa Rica

During the Felines & Primates Program, students complete 30 hours of coursework and 18 hours of field research in subjects like primate and feline biology, the ecology of coastal systems, field research skills, data collection and analysis, and sustainability studies.

Get a Glimpse of Life in the Trees

What You'll Learn

At Pacuare Reserve, the primary field site for the Felines & Primates program, instructors will lead students through research protocols on two studies that are taking place at the research station.  The first is a studying tracking the populations of felines, like jaguars and ocelots, that use the reserve as a hunting ground and migratory corridor. We'll check existing camera traps and set up new locations in our effort to monitor the population.  The second study is a look at life in the trees, as we collect behavioral data on three of the primate species that live in the rainforest canopy.

Connect with Your Costa Rican Peers

Seeing an ecosystem through the eyes of the people who live there is an invaluable experience. More than half of our Costa Rica program participants are Costa Rican, and they will shape your experience. You’ll meet, share perspectives and ideas, learn how leatherback sea turtles fit into Costa Rican culture and discover how and why these turtles are valued – historic, current, and future trends. Your new friends are excited to meet you!
