Teaching Science with NGSS

Join an experienced cohort of educators in the field in a course blending field research, experiential learning and NGSS standards with practical methods you can use in the classroom.

All NGSS courses are currently full. We'll be announcing 2020 NGSS training options (Costa Rica and Yellowstone!) If you'd like to be notified when these, and other, professional development courses become available, fill in the details below:

Course Description:
During this field-based course you will learn teaching strategies and tools developed by Ecology Project International (EPI) and Professional Learning Sessions from BEETLES (University of California - Berkeley) for creating and delivering authentic science lessons aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)*. Through participation in authentic research and conservation projects, you will develop your ecological knowledge and hone your science process skills. You’ll learn strategies for helping your students observe, question, discuss and conduct independent scientific research. You’ll increase your comfort with lesson planning using NGSS, and better understand how to teach science in and out of the regular classroom. You will leave the course with a lesson plan you have created to use at home, a template for creating future lesson and/or unit plans on your own, and resources to support and guide you on your teacher journey.
