Maricela Pizarro-Porter

Maricela lives in a rural town outside the city in San Isidro de Heredia, Costa Rica. Her main interests lie in plant reproductive biology, ecological functions, forest restoration, and regenerative development. She also brings valuable experience in the conservation field, including the creation, establishment, and management of a conservation organization, as well as the development and implementation of various programs.

As a biologist in Costa Rica, Maricela considers it a privilege to share her knowledge with young people and to foster a deeper understanding of the natural world in such a biodiverse country. She is excited to return to teaching and field trips, where she can inspire others through hands-on learning experiences.

Outside of her professional life, Maricela is passionate about music—especially rock, metal, and alternative or pop—and enjoys attending live concerts and music festivals whenever she can. She also loves baking, with cakes and desserts as her specialty, and has a growing collection of plants, with a recent focus on begonias.
