Azul Cubero
Latin America Development Supervisor
Azul is originally from Heredia, known as "The City of Flowers," and still calls it home. Their academic and professional journey began at Colegio Técnico Profesional de Flores, where they specialized in Tourism. They later pursued a Bachelor's degree in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations at the University of Costa Rica, followed by a Licentiate degree in Strategic Communication. Azul also participated in the Agents of Change program by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, which focuses on strengthening the political advocacy skills of young leaders across the region—an experience that helped shape their passion for creating meaningful social impact. They are currently pursuing a Master's degree in Social Responsibility and Sustainability at the National University of Costa Rica.
Throughout their career, Azul has focused on human rights, diversity, and sustainability. They have worked with several organizations, including Frente por los Derechos Igualitarios, where they advocated for LGBTIQ rights; the International Organization for Migration (IOM), supporting migrant populations; BAC, where they contributed to the company’s corporate communication and sustainability strategy; and the ALIASE Foundation, leading employability initiatives for vulnerable youth, especially women, refugees, Afro-descendant, and Indigenous individuals.
In addition, Azul is a trained facilitator in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), with a particular focus on the LGBTIQ community. They have led workshops for private companies, public institutions, and international organizations. These experiences have not only shaped their professional skillset but also deepened their lifelong commitment to equality, sustainability, and social responsibility.
Outside of their professional work, Azul is passionate about the arts. They study contemporary dance and various urban dance styles, including hip hop and vogue femme. They are also an avid fan of film, television, and drag art. In fact, they produce and host a podcast where they explore pop culture through a social lens.
