
Mari Aguirre
Alumni Program Coordinator
Mari is originally from Michoacán and has called La Paz, Baja California Sur home since 2018. She studied Marine Biology at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, has experience in fossil collection preparation, and worked in research on mangroves and microplastic retention. She was also a Citizen Participation Coordinator at a civil association, where she coordinated volunteer groups, social service, youth training, and strategies to promote continued participation.
In early 2023 she founded EcoXipe, an environmental action and education collective that later became an EPI ally. She also worked for a time at an Oasis Urbanos alliance organization to which EPI belongs, which led to her receiving a scholarship to attend EPI's Leadership and Ecology course.
She joins the Alumni Program team bringing not only scientific expertise and community organizing experience, but a genuine, long-standing commitment to the EPI mission.
