Conservation Is Officially a Verb.

It’s one thing to read or watch videos about places. It’s another to swim with sea lions at Espiritu Santo Island, lift a Leatherback turtle from Costa Rica sand, or look a boy from Ecuador in the eye and begin to see yourself. That’s active participation — engaging with people, places and wildlife to improve our planet. That’s Ecology Project International.

Reasons Students Choose EPI:

Do work that matters — A trip with EPI isn’t all about you. As a participant, the work you’ll do — collecting scientific data, restoring habitat, removing invasive species, monitoring animal behavior and tracking — is at the core of vital conservation projects being done environmentally critical locals. With EPI, you leave a place better than you found it.

Expand your academic skill set — If there’s one thing the natural world teaches, it’s the importance of diversity. Our programs include instruction in art, journaling, geography, conservation, science, local cultures, languages, leadership, and practical research. We welcome students of all kinds and in all disciplines. Just make sure you bring your curiosity.

Connect with working scientists and international students — Who better to reveal the life of a Galapagos tortoise than someone who’s studied them for 10 years? Who better to provide perspective on turtles in Costa Rican culture than a Costa Rican? At EPI, we understand that teachers aren’t your only teachers. Every person you connect with is an opportunity to learn, grow and engage.

Find your calling — Our courses inspire the direction of students’ lives. Many become biologists, conservation advocates and instructors because of their EPI experience. But even those who don’t find life’s calling in the waters off Baja talk of new perspectives, lifelong friends abroad, better college applications and deep satisfaction. Pretty good trip souvenirs, eh?
