Maritza, originally from Mexico City, always knew her life would be dedicated to nature. She studied Marine Biology at UABCS, specializing in whale sharks (microplastic analysis and load capacity studies).
She joined EPI in 2024 with a clear mission: to translate science into experiences that inspire action.

Recognizing that academic papers don't always reach the public, she identified a pivotal moment during ecotourism encounters: "When someone sees a whale shark face-to-face, that moment of wonder plants the seed for change," she explains. Maritza combines her experience as a tour guide with her deep scientific knowledge to share her love for nature and motivate people to protect it.

Inspired by her maternal grandmother who taught her to cherish all living beings, Maritza enjoys snorkeling and diving to connect with marine life. For her, environmental education creates a snowball effect: "We just need to touch one heart at a time. If others see my passion for the ocean and share it with their friends and family - that's how we create real impact."
