Fernando Noriega Betancourt

Outdoor School Program Supervisor

Fernando, originally from Mexico City, moved to Baja California to work with EPI. He lived in Florida, US, during his graduate studies, earning a master’s degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Ecology. Fernando brings a strong interdisciplinary background in science and conservation, shaped by more than a decade of field-based work in Mexico and international research settings.

He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Ecology from the University of Florida and has led and collaborated on research, community engagement, and environmental education initiatives focused on marine biodiversity, human–nature relationships, and applied conservation. His experience bridges rigorous science with facilitation, communication, and place-based learning.

Fernando is excited to join EPI because its mission of inspiring youth through immersive education deeply aligns with both his professional path and personal values. He admires how EPI integrates rigorous science, experiential learning, and conservation action—reflecting the kind of educational impact he has pursued throughout his career.

Outside of work, Fernando enjoys camping, diving, sailing, drawing, and spending time with his family. He is also passionate about storytelling, science communication, and creative projects that connect people with nature. His work has been recognized through peer-reviewed scientific publications, symposium presentations, and institutional collaborations in conservation and education.
