Julia Whalen
Development Officer
Julia was raised in Chicago and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois and her law degree from the University of San Diego. She worked as an inner-city public defender in Chicago for five years, serving approximately 25,000 clients. Julia began her career in fundraising in 1999, working for the United Way, Rotary International’s world headquarters in Chicago, University of Montana, and University of California-Berkeley. In addition to working for EPI, she owns her own business consulting in fundraising for nonprofit organizations. Julia has worked for EPI since 2009 and maintains her passion for it because of EPI's dynamism, vibrancy, and openness to alternative perspectives and evolution. Julia's hobbies include traveling, reading and studying astrology and Tarot, spending time with friends, being outdoors, and connecting with animals.
