Safety: EPI's Top Priority
Participant safety is our number one priority. We choose our program sites because they are safe, stable environments, and we contract specialized services (like driving and rafting) to local operators who know the conditions best.
EPI’s extensive medical protocols are designed to keep participants safe. Though we require students to unplug while on course, we do have a 24-hour contact number to facilitate communication with groups when necessary, and our instructors participate in risk management training each year and are certified in Wilderness First Aid.
Frequently Asked Questions
+ Is the water safe to drink?
You’ll always have access to clean water. In locations where it’s necessary, EPI provides purified water to participants at all times on-course.
+ Where does the program take place?
Students arrive and depart from either Los Cabos or La Paz airport. The course begins and ends at our campus in La Paz, Baja California Sur, located three hours north of Cabo San Lucas. The majority of the program takes place on Espiritu Santo, a protected, uninhabited island a short boat ride from La Paz. Students will also visit the Sierra de La Laguna mountain range south of La Paz.
+ Do we need wetsuits?
Typically, the water is warm enough that we don’t need wetsuits. During winter and spring courses, EPI will provide access to wetsuits to students who want them.
+ Do I need to bring any first aid supplies?
No. EPI provides all necessary first aid supplies. Our instructors travel with comprehensive first aid kits at all times while on-course and participants do not need to bring any additional supplies.
